  • Local RN has partnered with area animal shelters to launch Pets of the Week featuring adoptable animals from Northeast Arkansas Humane Society, including 6-year-old Sonny and 12-week-old Aqua; the series invites community members to adopt, volunteer, or donate.  Mix 106.3
  • Neighbors in Need NEA and MWYF will host a Christmas Community Picnic on Saturday, Dec. 13 (11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) at St. Bernard’s Auditorium to provide free toys, food, music, and activities for local families during the holiday season.  NEA Report
  • Arkansas State University pre-veterinary club donated over 1,000 pounds of pet food to Northeast Arkansas Humane Society and Jonesboro Animal Services during a government shutdown to help pet owners facing SNAP cuts; donations of food and toys will continue at both shelters.  K8 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • AT&T, City Youth Ministries, and Human I-T have partnered to distribute 110 laptops to students as part of a statewide effort to close the digital divide. The event featured Mayor Harold Copenhaver and local officials and marked the final stop in a series of collaborations throughout 2025.  K8 News
  • Arkansas State University was recognized for student success for the eighth consecutive year after receiving the 2025 Higher Education Excellence and Distinction award from Insight into Academia magazine (highlighting its ongoing commitment to students).  Jonesboro Sun

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • North Jonesboro may soon see a new gated senior living community on Warren Street, just south of Jonathan Drive, as the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission recommended rezoning the 20-year-vacant property for 29 residences + a community building, with paperwork set for review by City Council by Thursday.  K8 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arkansas State Hall of Honor linebacker Demario Davis is one of 32 nominees for the 2025 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award. He made 118 tackles this season and helped the Saints secure a Week 14 win, and the winner will be announced on February 5.  K8 News
  • Arkansas State football held its XBOX Bowl practice yesterday on campus — coaches said drills focused on boosting teamwork and refining plays ahead of the upcoming game.  K8 News
  • Arkansas State women's basketball improved its record to 8-3 after a win on Dec. 9 (boosting their season performance) and will play more games soon.  K8 News
