  • St. Bernards Hospice held its Moments of Remembrance ceremony yesterday at the St. Bernards Auditorium — an event where community members lit candles and hung ornaments to honor lost loved ones. A decorated tree will remain on display at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House through the holiday season.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • The Salvation Army of Jonesboro will reopen its warming shelters at 125 South Fisher Street this Sunday, Dec. 14 at 4:00 p.m. each evening on a first-come – first-served basis, and a hot meal will be served at 5:00 p.m. to help residents cope with the cold.  K8 News
  • Jonesboro nonprofits Neighbors in Need NEA & McCullough-Watkins Youth Foundation will host a Christmas Community Picnic tomorrow at St. Bernards Auditorium, serving hot meals, free toys and vendor services for over 3,000 attendees. Volunteers and toy donations are needed by Friday, Dec. 12 at 5 p.m.  The Fox 104.9

  • Northwest Arkansas Council and the U of A Office of Entrepreneurship released the Arkansas Capital Scan report on Thursday, showing 18 deals raised nearly $260 million in 2024, with 92% going to Northwest (crowdfunding grew 37%). EDUCATION NEWS

  • Katelyn Wittman, an A-State online media management student and full-time teacher, will travel over 1,500 miles from Las Vegas to attend the commencement at First National Bank Arena on Saturday, Dec. 13. She said the ceremony marks a meaningful celebration of her career dedication and family balance.  K8 News
  • Arkansas State University students have modified electric ride-on toy cars so children with disabilities can drive them independently. Seven cars will be gifted today at 11 a.m. in the lobby of the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Health Sciences (the project marks its third year).  Jonesboro Right Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Coach Butch Jones reflected on the Red Wolves' 2025 season and discussed his plans ahead of the upcoming XBox Bowl. He remains confident that lessons learned this season will bolster the team's performance at the bowl.  K8 News
  • Jonesboro native Blake Anderson was promoted on Thursday as the new head football coach of Southern Miss Golden Eagles after serving as interim since Sunday — he replaces Charles Huff, who left for Memphis. Anderson previously coached Arkansas State from 2014 to 2020.  Northeast Arkansas News
  • The Jonesboro girls basketball team improved to a 10-1 record after defeating West Memphis on Dec. 9. Their win marks a strong step forward this season.  K8 News
