COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Duck Classic wrapped up Friday—raising a record $885,000 for NEA Baptist Charitable Foundation to support local programs. The two-day event included a banquet kick-off at First National Bank Arena on Dec. 11 and duck hunters went out on Dec. 12.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • The Salvation Army of Jonesboro will reopen its overnight warming shelter Sunday, Dec. 14, at 4 p.m. (located at 125 S. Fisher St.) to provide shelter for 14 men and eight women when freezing temperatures hit, with a hot meal served at 5 p.m. daily.  Mix 106.3
  • Construction is underway for 45 new bus shelters in Jonesboro (a federal grant awarded from 2020 to 2021 funded the project) and riders will be picked up 20 feet past the work zone while officials plan further upgrades.  Northeast Arkansas News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Arkansas PBS will rebrand as 'Arkansas TV' after losing $2.5 million in federal funding and being unable to cover its $2 million annual PBS dues. The change takes effect on July 1, with minimal on-air changes until then and more Arkansas-focused shows planned.  Northeast Arkansas News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Robin Myers was named interim president by the ASU System Board of Trustees on Friday, Dec. 12 — following Chuck Welch’s departure. He previously served as chancellor at ASU Mountain Home — where he consulted on the local CREST Center.  Jonesboro Right Now
  • The Board named Dr. Robin Myers as interim system president following Dr. Brenden Kelly’s departure, with Myers expected to start immediately. It approved $23.7 million for improvements at the Jonesboro campus, with an indoor baseball center (40,000 sqft), a Kays Hall renovation, and barns for the new veterinary program.  K8 News
  • Students at A-State designed accessible ride-on cars for kids with disabilities as part of the Go Baby Go program and presented the customized vehicles Friday morning to families across Northeast Arkansas.  Northeast Arkansas News

  • On Dec. 8, Dr. Jon Thompson received the Living The Mission Physician Award at St. Bernards Medical Center — his colleagues praised his compassion and leadership in patient care as a committed hospitalist. This recognition reflects his role as a dedicated community healer.  NEA Report

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arkansas State's Board approved a 40,000 sqft indoor baseball development center at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field, set to start construction on January 1, 2026 & finish by December. The facility, funded entirely by private donations, will boost the Red Wolves program with upgraded training amenities and gameday seating.  K8 News
